Dental care is not something that everybody has in the United States. Most of the time, your dental plan will offer some coverage for the basic dental needs, including preventative dental services like the recommended two check-ups every year. You can also get coverage on cleaning, x-rays and fluoride treatments.

Many of the dental plans in the United States will require payment or only have partial coverage for many follow-up work choices in dental care. If you have a crown, root canal, cavity filling, anesthesia, sealants and other similar actions, you will most likely have to pay for a portion of the services.

Most dental plans will not cover cosmetic surgeries, similar to how medical benefits packages won't cover for plastic surgery. If you have teeth whitening, orthodontic work, crowns or dental implants, you will have to pay for it on your own. In this way, you can see why fewer people will consider having these actions done at the dentist's office because they can't afford - or don't want to spend - that much money on their teeth! You can spend a lot of money very quickly in the dentist's chair.
