Do you want a way to make your home really stand out? Consider installing garage door trim. Not only will your home look brand new, but you can also showcase those lovely garage doors by completing this project. To begin, you will need a measuring tape, miter box, back saw, trim nails, and a hammer.
Picking trim is really a matter of personal taste, so I will leave that to you. Once you have it, the next step is to measure your garage door. You need the height on both end and length across the bottom and top.
Next, cut the pieces of trim to match the measurements that you just took. Use the miter box to etch 45 degree cuts into each side of the trim, and then one 45 degree cut on the top of each piece. Essentially, you want the corners to square off.
Now it is time to attach the trim. Open the door to a point as close to horizontal as possible. Now lightly tack on the trim for each length. Once done, go back and securely nail the trim on every six inches or so.
Finally, fill in the holes that the nails have left with putty, or paint them to match the color of the trim that you have chosen. When all is said and done, you should have a new trim surrounding those garage doors. If you like, you can even paint all of the trim to match the siding of your home.
If you want the trim to really stand out, paint it a stark white color. If you wish to have the trim blend in with the rest of the home, paint it the same color as siding that is currently on your house. Or, if you want something really different, paint the trim a completely separate color.
Painting door trims and frames is one of the least expensive ways to really change the appearance of your home. Creating color contrasts can really highlight one part of the home while color matching on the frames can decrease the attention on a less desirable section.
There are some complex projects you can undertake on a home, but replacing the garage door trim really is not one. You can easily get it done in a few hours on the weekend and reward yourself by relaxing the rest of the time.
