I Need A Car
Ken Charnley
Most new car warranties will cover every part of your car for either the first 12 months or 12,000 miles, whichever comes first. Also, different warranties are offered to cover the different parts of your car. If your car is used, then your warranty is a limited one.
There are several things that are covered by car warranties. A bumper-to-bumper warranty will cover your entire car, except normal maintenance items. It will normally cover your suspension system, powertrain, drivetrain, electronics, and steering. Not to mention it covers your braking, exhaust, and emissions systems. If you have a powertrain warranty, it will cover your engine parts like the engine block, cylinder heads, manifolds, injection systems, and flywheels.
A drivetrain warranty covers anything that drives the wheels. This includes the transmission, axles, driveshafts, and clutch, among other things. Your corrosion warranty will cover rust-through perforation of your car's sheet metal. However, it doesn't cover surface corrosion brought on by nicks, chips, or scratches. An emissions warranty comes separate from other warranties. They typically cover your car for seven to eight years and up to 80,000 miles. It covers any emissions problems you have with your car.
Now that you know more about your car warranty, you can see how important it is to have one. When your car reaches its warranty limit, you might want to consider extending it for a longer time period if you want to keep the car. The amount of money you can save on repairs can definitely outweigh the cost of extending your car warranty.
