Indoor Gardening Grow Lights
Scott Fromherz
Plants, flowers, vegetables or herbs cannot live without light and warmth due to which reason they do so well in the spring and summer when they have both in abundance. When you have an indoor garden you can create the same ambiance and atmosphere by providing optimum light and warmth; here are some tips and suggestion on indoor gardening lights that you may find helpful.
Here's what Wikipedia has to say about the topic:
"Grow lights are electric lamps designed to promote plant growth by emitting an electromagnetic spectrum appropriate for photosynthesis. It does this by mimicking the light spectrum from the sun, allowing indoor growth with outdoor conditions.
Different light spectrums are used for the different stages of plant growth. The initial vegetative stage requires blue spectrum of light, whereas the later 'flowering' stage should be done with red/orange spectrums. The lights can be bought by spectrum colour specifically, or some companies such as Sylvania Grolux produce a full spectrum bulb which caters for all stages of growth.
The light is usually used in conjunction with a reflector, to control and intensify the light emissions, and will include an electrical ballast to control the flow of current flowing to the light. This is required because of the high intensity of the light that is necessary to produce something akin to sunlight."
Like us, plants, flowers, herbs and vegetables are very different from one another and therefore they have very different needs, which you must first learn in order to be able to provide optimum growing conditions. There are a number of ways in which you can provide indoor gardening light and they are: place the garden next to the window and allow it to have as much natural light as possible, if you have observed that all green houses are made out of glass for the same reason and that is to absorb as much daylight as possible.
Educate Yourself
The other most popular way to get indoor gardening light is artificially by using florescent bulbs for a large space or individual bulbs for those plants that need the extra hours of light. You will find a large variety of bulbs when it comes to indoor gardening light and depending on the need of your plant you can choose the type that is most appropriate. If you are not sure what type of indoor gardening light is best for a particular type of plant or flower ask the professionals in the gardening store, research online or address specific to the plant books.
Helpful Tips
Plants thrive on light and you can conduct a little experiment of your own my placing a plant close to the window and you will notice that gradually it will turn itself towards it, if you turn the plant again you will see it changing positions again; insufficient light can kill your indoor gardens and you will soon find out when the color of the leaves starts to fade, thin stems and/or generating smaller leaves then it usually generates.
When you get a plant from the store or seeds you will find that on the package it is indicated how much light the plant or flower requires in term of hours or low, medium and abundant, which is self explanatory. You can also find in stores shelves with inbuilt light for indoor gardening, which are slightly expensive but very handy and efficient especially if you are serious about your indoor garden and want to keep extending it.
