Inflammation Of Gall Bladder
Groshan Fabiola
We know that the gall bladder is an organ that helps in the digestion of fat. This organ is found next to the liver. The liver produces bile and the gall bladder stores it. The gall bladder releases the bile when partially digested foods are absorbed inside the small intestine. The problems appear with the occurrence of the gallstones. The gallstones occur in the gall bladder and are formed of cholesterol, calcium and bile salts. In time these gallstones grow in size and they block the bile ducts and do not allow the bile to be released any more. Gallstones are difficult to eliminate and if they are numerously they can cause inflammation, swelling and even infection of the gall bladder. For complicated cases surgery is highly recommended.
Once the gall bladder is removed the digestion process slows down. This is happening because the liver has to produce more bile when fat foods enter the stomach or the small intestine. That is why surgical interventions are recommended only in people who suffer of serious forms of gall bladder disease. It is generally used as a last method in curing the gall bladder disease and it is used only when the patients does not have any positive response to the administrated drugs.
We know that this disease can be either chronic, a mild form of the disease, or acute that often requires surgery.
Luckily, none of the surgeries that are used for eliminating the gall bladder involves risks. We know the traditional method which is also called open cholecystectomy and laparoscopic cholecystectomy. Traditional surgery involves a wide abdominal incision that can leave post-operatory scars and that require about ten days of hospitalization.
Modern surgery is represented through the laparoscopic intervention. This procedure does not leave visible marks. This procedure involves a small abdominal incision that minimizes the risk of infection. This form of surgical intervention also allows patients to recover quickly and most of them do not require more than one day of hospitalization.
Even if surgery is not a complicated procedure, specialists recommend this way of treatment in the most severe cases.
If you had a surgical intervention you should know that you have to respect the medical treatment and especially the prescribed diet at least until the body gets used to the absence of the gall bladder. As a patient you should also avoid fatty foods and you should take bile salts tablets in order to help the digestion and absorption of fat.
