As with any new concept colon cleansing has also encountered stiff resistance from certain quarters. In fact, not many physicians endorse this process. According to most doctors one bowel movement a day should be good enough. They even would allow two or three days for a single bowel movement in particular cases.
But there are the believers in colon cleansing who strongly believe in the healing powers of colon cleansing. It would be a long argument to decide which party is correct. In fact, it seems that they both are right. As doctors say bowel movement can at times be irregular. While that may be true, it is equally true that a clean colon would make anyone feel healthier and more energetic.
The colon of our body can be compared to the sewage system of a city. As the sewage in a city draws away all the dirt and filth from the city so does the colon draw away the waste products from our body.
Colon cleansing is important in that it doesn't allow the waste materials inside our body to stay longer than they require to. So they don't get the time to create toxins which can easily get absorbed into the blood and can make feel us really nauseating.
Although colon is meant to deal with waste products it is not there to function as a reservoir. The peristaltic movement in the colon is actually meant to force the waste materials down and finally out of the body. If we try and regulate this movement unnecessarily, then our body gets affected.
These days colon cleansing has become even more important as our eating habits have gone through a sea change. What we now have mostly is junk food which is highly processed and contains a lot of animal fat. Since the roughage intake has decreased substantially so the colon is also not properly cleansed.
The best and natural way to clean your colon would be to increase your regular roughage intake. This can easily be done as there are a whole host of foods available which are high on roughage content. Also drink plenty of water that cleans your colon.
So it is better not to think of what your physician says but to increase the daily diet of roughage intake. There are a whole set of medicines available too, but it is better not to have them unless your physician prescribes.
