The word 'ceramic' has its origin from the Greek word 'Keramikos' meaning potter's clay. Stronger, harder, as well as less permeable to fluid objects are usually made from clay and it's an age old tradition. Clay is commonly used for making pots, tiles, and bricks. The ceramics are usually made by heating natural earth until the form changes and it becomes harder and non-porous. Ceramics are produced at high temperature which drives off water chemically bound in the earth and any water that soaked into it. True ceramics appear rarely in the nature as a result the world depends almost entirely on man made porcelain products for it various needs. With this technique, artisans could use different colors on porcelain after it has been baked.

Now with the rising income levels and growing inclination towards art worldwide, the demand for ceramic products has increased. Today the Chinese ceramic products have carved a niche for themselves in the world market. Be it in the form of ceramic pots on the dinner table, or a lamp in the corner or the idol of laughing Buddha, one may find Chinese ceramic products in almost every household in some form or the other. The most common use of ceramics is in the form of tiles. The demand for high quality tiles for offices and homes is greater than ever.
