You've probably heard or seen the popular dance show Dancing With The Star on TV. If you have, then you would have realized how fit and healthy each dancer looked. I'm sure that you were sometimes left in awe by the way they moved across the dancefloor. Good curves, well-toned and shaped arms seem to be the order of the day on that show. The number one reason why they look like that is because ballroom dancing is by far one of the best forms of exercise there exists.
There are many of us that are not dancers, however, the great about ballroom dancing is that it is slow and romantic, and can be performed on a floor with low lights. The best dancers tell a story by dancing. At first, it will be hard to keep with the perfect timing and physique needed for dancing, but the number of twists and turns you get is more than even the most rigorous aerobics class.
If you are looking for a great more exciting alternative to the daily trek to the gym, then ballroom dancing may be the solution for you. What separates it from the gym is that the focus is on learning the dance moves rather than the fact that it's exercise itself. This makes more exciting than any gym session.
The great thing is that you are burning as many calories as any other form of exercise like at the gym for instance. Well, sometimes even more. One session could mean that you burn anything between 200 to 400 calories, how much precisely would depend on the kind of dance you choose. Now this is like half an hour on the elliptical trainer or a brisk walk. Some energetic dances burn up even more calories.
Moreover, ballroom dancing exercises every part of your body not just certain portions like at the gym when you are doing crunches or you are on the treadmill. Little wonder that professional ballroom dancers look so worked over and superbly toned from head to toe.
Another thing that makes ballroom dancing a highly enjoyable form of exercise is the fact that you can do it with your partner and get paired up with someone else. You may form long-lasting relationships with your classmates and even go out dancing with them. The most important thing is to get out there and enjoy ballroom dancing as a good form of exercise!
