At Home Agent Jobs
Kenneth Echie
Immigration has become a very important part of the ever changing culture in the United States. Those who want to enter the United States must do so legally and obtain the proper documentation or work visa to remain in the US. Customs and border agents have become the frontline defense against those who want to enter the USA illegally.
What does it take to become an INS agent?
Those who want to become INS agents should know that they are the first act of a very important part in securing our nations future. An INS agent works with people immigrating into the United States. Since the INS has become part of the Homeland Security Department, the laws have changed. An INS agent also helps to enforce the laws created to regulate and see that the admission of aliens into the United States is handled with the utmost importance.
The INS also works with state agencies, the United Nations and the Department of Health and Human Services. They deal with admitting and resettling refugees. INS agents help to keep the laws current regarding immigration and they teach those laws to aliens who want to become US citizens. INS agents help to secure work visas and review current status cases of those who have entered the USA on such provisions.
Many INS agents work with local law enforcement to help ensure that those who have been issued visas comply with the timeframe given. If laws are broken under those provisions, they help in deportation of said individuals.
What does it take to get an INS agent job?
There are many departments within the INS; there are border patrol agents, immigration agents and deportation officers. Finding the right fit for you will be determined by your background, education, or your field experience.
If you are deciding on a career in the INS and you have worked customer service, you will probably want to apply for a border patrol agent. Although they are often the first people that aliens see, there is a misconception about what their role has become.
Border patrol agents are only enforcing the laws to protect the United States against terrorist attacks. Some patrol agents often find aliens wondering around in the dessert dehydrated and alone. They do not turn away those entering our country. They take them to the processing hub and begin the evaluation process to determine if a person is going to be allowed into the United States.
As you can see above, this is a job that is people oriented. Those that have interest in working with people should consider this INS agent career. If this sounds like you, then you need to do more reading on the profession. You should visit websites that cover the profession in more detail. You will gain the information you need to be ahead of your competition.
