The main constituent of our body is water with some parts, such as the liver, being 90% water. Without fresh clean water we would not survive and doctors say we must drink at least 64 fl oz every single day. Unfortunately nearly all water, in it's natural environment such as lakes, also contains chemicals and organisms harmful to our health so it is necessary to treat all drinking water by using large industrial water filters.
As well as our bodies being mainly water the vast majority of the earth's surface is covered in water. Of course much of it is salt seawater but there are also huge areas of fresh water. In some places, such as the Hebrides in Scotland, there is actually more water surface than ground surface. It is therefore very alarming that there are also large areas of land where water is at a premium. When water is found in such places it is usually of poor quality requiring the use of water filters and other technologies to ensure it's safety before use.
In many modern parts of the world there are strict government and local laws governing what should or should not be included in drinking water supplies. Strict rules and regulations are used in an attempt to ensure that our drinking water is perfectly safe drink. However our water often contains very small amounts (called trace elements) of substances which are incredibly harmful if ingested in larger amounts. As more and more people become aware of this they increasingly use water filters to ensure all substances, even those that have been added to the water, are removed completely.
Aluminum is an incredibly dangerous substance which is highly poisonous if ingested. However it is extremely common to find aluminum in drinking water supplies but only in very minute traces. Unfortunately there was a case in Cornwall, England where there was a mistake made in the water treatment plant which led to too much aluminum being added to the water. The water was declared unsafe to drink for some time until it had cleared through the system but many believe that it caused physical harm to many.
Fluoride is another chemical, found in water supplies, which is known to be poisonous. Strangely, if you read the back of many toothpastes on the market today you will notice the warnings against consumption of it, even in the smallest amounts. Even though it is added to water to help fight tooth decay what real evidence exists that supports this claim?
Water filters help remove fluoride, aluminum and other harmful chemicals from the water. The effects of this can be clearly seen with the naked eye by making one cup of tea using filtered water and another with unfiltered water. You will immediately notice a strong difference in the color of the two drinks. So striking is the difference it really makes you wonder how much chemical content is added to our water.
Of course there is a massive selection to choose from if you are in search of a water filter. Available in different sizes and, of course, different prices, there is a type of water filter available for virtually any need. Sizes range from the very small which filer a few cups of water, to the large systems installed to filter all of the household water. Even larger systems are available but usually for industrial installations.
As well as making our water safer to drink filtered water takes on a completely different flavor. Hot and cold drinks will taste better and you will soon notice a vast difference between filtered and unfiltered water. The difference is so great that you will find it difficult to live without your water filter.
