For today Marlboro is one of the most popular cigarette brands. "Mild as May" - it was Marlboro's slogan at the beginning because it was women's cigarettes. Even filters for these cigarettes were of bright pink color to hide the prints of lipstick. Marlboro was taken away from manufacture when the World War Two started because it was unprofitable. In early 50s was made an effort to bring Marlboro to life. It was important to make men's stress to create a "real male" character. To make a new character was chosen a cowboy. Today it is one of the most familiar appearances.
Camel cigarettes were put on the market in 1913 by company founded by R. J. Reynolds. In 20-30s "Camel" was "number one cigarettes brand" in the USA. Some changes happened in the early 60s. Company decided to redesign the cigarettes. The first Camel packing had three pyramids, but the company deleted 2 of them. So the general appearance was changed. But after changes were made sales of cigarettes abruptly went down and company started to accumulate losses. After such an experiment previous appearance was reestablished. Since that time pack of Camel remains invariable. Name of camel, depicted on the Camels pack is Old Joe.
By the way R. J. Reynolds Company is well-known as the first one that used American blending in Winston cigarettes. But by surprising coincidence in the same year Philip Morris Company started using tobacco medley similar to Winston one. Was it an accident or just spying? No one knows.
American mixing has a specially cultivated tobacco. We must say that it is a staggering tobacco with characteristic aroma. It grows in Tennessee, Kentucky and Ohio states. It also has little sugar, high essence of nicotine and it smokes sluggishly. If you have ever smoked Burley, you would definitely felt its nut taste. Winston is one of the most wide spread cigarette brand in the world now.
