Job Placement In Canada
Paul Megan
I've been waiting weeks, even months for a response and I've gotten nothing but a couple network marketing calls and lots of TNT (thanks but no thanks) letters.
Does this sound like you? Is this how you think you should organize your job placement activities?
1. Write a reverse chronology resume highlighting your work history and educational credentials.
2. Post your resume on two or three job websites like monster.com or hot jobs.com
3. Mail lots of resumes to a wide range of companies.
4. Contact some agencies and recruiters.
5. Answer a bunch of ads.
6. Wait for the phone to ring.
If this is what you've been doing, you're doing it all wrong!
You see, everything has changed since the days when this kind of passive, mass marketing approach worked. If you were working on your job placement in the last century you'd probably have some luck. Those were that days when you could count on the numbers eventually working for you.
But this is the 21st Century. And like I said, everything's changed . . . especially since 911 and Katrina. The reason things have changed is because the expectations of hiring managers has changed. Perhaps the biggest expectation is that a job candidate is expected to know something about the organization, its products or services and its goals.
Secondly, the job candidate is expected to come to an interview with specific recommendations as to how they can make a contribution to the organization and its bottom line. And employer wants to know very specifically how you can make a difference.
If you fail to make that connection for an employer, you just LOST! And the job opportunity will be offered to someone who can . . . regardless of what's written on you resume.
So, go back and take a close look at how you're conducting your job placement campaign.
Are you doing the homework required to meet employers' expectations? If your efforts look like the list above, you're not. And you've condemned yourself to weeks and months of disappointment and disillusionment.
But the good news is that it doesn't have to be that way. In fact, there's an exciting alternative job placement system that can have you entertaining a job offer in as little a 14 days! Check it out . . . and then get ready for real results!
