Learn The Bass Guitar
Warren Wong
Whether you are a veteran bass angler or a beginner, you c an benefit from listening to and watching the experts. In this way you can pick up a few of their bass fishing tricks to help you improve your catch rate. Bass fishing gurus do hold classes and teach some of their tricks to others. One example is the doodling trick used by bass fishing expert Don Iovino. This trick is best used in deep water, but it will also be effective in shallow water.
Iovino recommends that you use a either spinning gear or baitcasting gear on a 6-foot, medium-light action rod. If you are fishing in deep water using 6 to 8-pound test, the trick is to use spinning gear. Use baitcasting gear with line that is 10-pond test or greater. Between the worm and the brass sinker, you should place a small glass bead. When fishing in spring, you will have more success if you use paddle-tail worms and when fishing in spring and fall, straight tail worms are the best baits to use.
When you cast out, let the bait fall to the depth you prefer and then shake the tip of the rod a little to get the attention of the bass. Wait for less than a minute and repeat the shaking action. Pull the bait up slowly, then slowly drop it back down and pull up again. When the bass are not biting, the trick is to take things really slowly. The bite might feel like a slight pull, especially when you are fishing in deep water, but don't ignore anything that you feel is out of the ordinary.
On cloudy days and when the water is dark, purple is the best color of bait to use. In the fall, brown is the best color. Red is a great color to use at any time, but when fishing in dirty water, use a dark shade of red. You will also be successful when you use cinnamon-blue because this is the same color of night crawlers that bass feed on.
There is a trick you should be aware of in the position in which you fish for bass. Fish uphill in the spring and fish downhill in the fall. A Texas rig is the best choice for fishing in areas with a lot of vegetation cover because it is less likely to loop or tangle. When you fish with a worm, have it suspended at least 90% of the time.
Make sure your hooks are sharp, which means you should pay attention to your fishing gear when you are not on the water. Sharpen the hooks when necessary, especially when you first open the package. Many anglers think that the hooks are already sharpened when they buy them, but this is not the case. There are many brand name hooks that need to be sharpened before you use them.
You may think that fishing for bass in crystal clear water will be a breeze, but the opposite is true. For this type of water conditions, you should use a 6-foot spinning rod. You should also keep your line slack and shake the bait rather than drag it.
