Learning Spanish can be one of the most valuable things you will ever learn in your lifetime. Even so, you have to realize that Spanish is really another skill to master, not an edict from higher authority. Spanish can be a fun subject to study and if you work it right can bring you years of enjoyment. Even simple Spanish phrases can be incredibly useful and just "cool" to know. Not only that, but learning basic Spanish is one of the simplest things to do.

Perhaps you could get one of the programs which allow you to custom tailor your learning experience by picking which type of study you want to concentrate on. Like most people, I started to learn Spanish with the usual ghastly grammar methods that make learning so dull and boring, but soon found other methods that were much more enjoyable and I wound up leaving out all the useless and time wasting high school like grammar based activities.

Or maybe, you are the type of person that can study Spanish 1 or 2 hours a day just for pure fun. In any of those cases I really recommend a basic level course for you.

Some Spanish programs will give you some statistics as to exactly how many words you have learned in a day. That might be OK for some people, but it is probably info you don't really need. Don't get hung up on those measurements if what you really want is to learn Spanish. Have a good time and enjoy your learning experience.
