Autism And Social Skills
Scott Boyd
I'm here to talk to you about autism social skills. Autistic children are going to have trouble with this and there are very degrees of how much trouble they'll have. Autism is a spectrum disorder that leaves a person lacking communication and relating skills. There is no cure for it, but there are many treatment methods that allow a child to grow up and be a productive person in society. Some children will grow up to have regular jobs, a spouse and a family. Others, mainly due to lack of treatment, will require the care of another person for the rest of your life. I'm going to discuss with you the signs of autism social skills, so you can better understand it.
It's important to understand how important communication is in the process of learning. I think a lot of us take it for granted that we could be taught by a teacher. They tell us something, we learn and that's all there is too it, but it is different for an autistic child. Imagine not being able to communicate properly, even with body language. You just couldn't pick it up no matter what. That's what it is like for a lot of autistic children. Without communication, it is difficult to learn and this is why professionals are needed for this process.
Even though autism social skills aren't the best they can still be taught with a variety of methods. Autistic children still like to play and still have fun, just like other children. Obviously where you can get attention, you can teach. Role-playing is a great method to teach the skills of relating. A lot of these children don't know how to properly behave in specific situations and with role-playing they can get a first rate example of how it works.
The linguistic of autism social skills varies greatly from child to child. All children have specific skills and shortcomings that they naturally have. It either comes from parents or genetics, but they exist. When it comes to actually having conversations, some can do it perfectly, while others can't utter a word. This is all normal in the world of autism, but there happens to be some related aspects to it. An autistic child with perfect talking skills will still exhibit those autistic characteristics. For example, they could be having a conversation with their peers, but the keep repeating the same phrase over and over again throughout the conversation. This taps into the repetitive aspects of autism. You may also notice that they seem to go off topic and drive the conversation back to a common point in all their discussions, no matter how unrelated.
These are all very important signs of autism social skills. They lack in some form or another. They can be good or bad, but the main characteristics still show. These problems can be treated and improved on, but they'll never get over them. I hope this gives you a better appreciation of the social skills that you possess.
