There are and verbs in Spanish. There is a mixture of regular and irregular verbs ion each of these. You do have to learn which verbs are regular and irregular because there are different rules of conjugation for each category. You first have to learn the present tense of the verbs before you start learning how to conjugate them in other tenses. To conjugate each verb you change the ending of the infinitive to match the person. For example, I sing is yo canto and he sings is el canta.
There are specific endings to use in conjugating regular verbs.
Conjugation of AR verbs:
Take off the and add:
- You (singular) - as
- You (formal) - ustes
- He, She, It ( El or ella)
- We - amos
- You (plural) - ais
- You (formal) - an
- They - an
Conjugation of ER verbs:
Take off the and add:
- You (singular) - es
- You (formal) - e
- He, She, It - e
- We - emos
- You (plural) - eis
- You (formal) - en
- They - en
Conjugation of IR verbs:
Take off the and add:
- You (singular) - es
- You (formal) - e
- He, She, It - e
- We - imos
- You (plural) - is
- You (formal) - en
- They - en
While you can learn the endings for regular verbs in Spanish, this is not the case with irregular verbs. There are no hard and fast rules that you can apply when conjugating these verbs and you just have to memorize the conjugations. The irregular verbs include tenir( to have), ser (to be) and ir (to go).
The conjugation of each of these irregular Spanish verbs is as follows:
TENIR
- Tengo
- Tienes
- Tiene
- Tiene
- Tenemos
- Teneis
- Tienen
- Tienen
SER
- soy
- eres
- es
- somos
- sos
- son
IR
- voy
- vas
- va
- vamos
- vais
- van
Once you have these three verbs mastered, you can move on to learning other irregular verbs. These three are the most commonly used verbs that you will need when you first start learning Spanish as a second language and will aid you in forming sentences using other aspects of grammar and vocab ulary.
