List Of Online Colleges
Jenna Lee
Many myths associated with online education are out there. Several individuals like the idea of studying online. Not only is it convenient, it's at most times cheaper than attending a traditional school or university. Since the online college phenomenon is fairly new, some myths have sprung about. Here are some of those myths and some reasoning to why they do not hold true.
1. Online learning consists of trading emails with an instructor. This is also not true. Most courses feature an interactive web site that includes a chat forum so that you can communicate with other students in the class. Some classes are even beginning to utilize videoconferencing.
2. Online classes are easier than classes in traditional schools. This is not true. In order to receive accreditation, courses in online schools must teach the same amount of subject material as other schools. There will be homework, tests and essays. However, the flexibility of online learning means that you can study whenever you feel is the best time to study. That aspect makes online learning more personalized, but not easier.
3. A diploma from an online school is not worth as much as a diploma for a traditional face-to-face school. While the first online schools were lacking in quality, current schools are as rigorous as their traditional peers. In order to be accredited by one of the major organizations that accredit schools, online colleges must show that their students get the same amount of information as an accredited traditional university.
4. I will not be able to ask questions or get help in a timely manner. While it is not wise to wait until the last minute to try and contact your instructor about an assignment, it is generally easy to get a hold of them via email or in the chat forum. Many online schools also have academic advisors to help students with academic decisions. It is best to check what counseling services are available before you apply to an online school.
