Auto Body And Repair
Jordan Mcpelt
Auto repair can be a costly fix when times are tight. But there is damage to your car that could be just cosmetic. If you have been in an accident and your car has been damaged, you will want to have the damage checked out, but if it is only superficial, you have a choice as to whether you want to get it fixed right away, later down the road, or at all.
The first step after an accident that damages your car is make sure the insurance company and the police know about it. These steps usually happen within hours of the accident so that everyone who needs to know about it is properly informed. Next, you will want to get the car checked out to see how bad the damage is. This is not getting it fixed, necessarily, so if you are using someone other than who the insurance company wants you to, you should be fine.
So what constitutes damage severe enough to use an auto body repair shop? Most of the time, the repairs that will need to be made are ones that will affect your driving. If you just have a few dents and scratches on your car, these repairs can obviously wait. But if you cannot operate the car properly or the damage will inhibit the drivers around you, it is time to go to the auto repair shop.
If you want to take your car to the auto repair shop as soon as you have had your accident, you will want to make sure to contact your insurance company to see if they have specific auto repair shops that they want you to go to. Otherwise, it is up to you to find the right auto repair shop to fix your car.
It is very important to follow the guidelines of your insurance policy. If you decide that you want to use a mechanic or auto repair shop that is not approved by your insurance company, you will have to be prepared to pay much of the cost out of pocket. This usually isn't what most people want, because the cost of the deductible is usually hard enough to come up with.
Once you have picked your auto repair, shop, you will want to check it out for the quality of the work and the fairness of the prices. Ask a friend or family member who have used this particular shop before. If it is recommended by your insurance, you know that the quality of the work should be top rate. But if you have chosen this auto repair shop on your own, you will want to check out what the place looks like, get an estimate on the damage, and talk to the manager of the shop before you commit to one auto repair shop. This will save you a lot of money and time in the end when you send in your car to get fixed.
