Living Room Furniture Layout
Victor Epand
If you are thinking about purchasing some new furniture for redesigning your living room, then first you should consider making a rough layout in your mind about how you are going to arrange your new furniture in your living room.
Many people think of it as a brain storming job and do not give any attention towards this aspect. In fact, there are some easy and simple tips through which you can style your living room with a great perfection. Before you make a rough layout, you must keep one thing in mind, which is that a living room is a transition space with which all other rooms of the house are connected. One other thing that needs to be remember is that you have to pass through living room to reach those other rooms of your house. So, it becomes very important to have a proper circulation space for the family members.
Here are some easy tips in which you can follow while creating a rough layout of your living room. The first step is to get a plain sheet of white paper, then make a sketch plan of your living room. Within this sketch you may want to include the entrance door, entrance doors to other rooms, window positions, minor column projections, if there is any, the swing of the doors whether they are inside or outside of the living room, presence of staircase, and a fireplace if you have one.
With a sharp pencil, make lines starting from entrance door to all other doors and window positions. These lines represents the travel lines that a person follows while using the living room. When the room is empty, these lines would be used by any person to reach the other point.
Now you can start positioning the new furniture units you want to purchase such as a three seat sofa, a single or double seat sofa, a coffee table, end tables and lampshades, bookshelves, TV unit, etc. According to your budget, you can add to any number of these units that you desire.
While you start the positioning of these units within your living room, then you will find that these units will obstruct the lines that has been drawn by pencil, but you should not worry about that now. Now you can create as many combinations and arrangements of the new furniture units as you like. While doing this, try to be as creative and innovative as you can be, but the one thing that you must keep in mind is to keep the human movement from being unobstructed.
After you have done the positioning of the new furniture items, then you can modify and rearrange the travel lines. You might end up with many different layouts, and then you can select the layout that suits you and your family the best. The final layout must match with your requirements and you can make this layout more interesting by positioning the paintings on the walls as well.
