If you've still got that bulky monitor on your desk, now might be the time to upgrade to an LCD monitor. They're smaller, cheaper and actually bigger than your old CRT monitor.
First off, they have a much smaller footprint than your normal monitor. What that means is it takes up much less space on your desk. It's not nearly as bulky.
Second, LCD monitors have drastically dropped in price. They are much cheaper than they ever have been before. You can routinely find 19 inch LCD monitors for sale for under $200. Just a few years ago, LCD monitors were double to triple the price of a normal CRT monitor. These prices have equalized just in the last year or two.
Third, they are larger than ever. I'm talking pure screen size. The most popular size of normal/CRT monitors was 15", while many LCD's are coming in at 19" or larger. It means you get more on your screen at one time, plus it looks larger and clearer than ever before.
Fourth, the quality is there like never before. 10 years ago when LCD monitors first started coming out, they were slower than normal monitors. The monitor would get really blurry during movies, or any graphic intensive action. Now, they have much faster response times and the quality of the picture is much better than it ever has been before.
Fifth, the newer models of computers and graphic cards only have digital outputs which no longer support older CRT monitors. Because of this increasing trend, CRT monitors are being eliminated from the market, and no longer supported.
Because of these five reasons it makes more sense than ever to upgrade to an LCD monitor. Keep an eye on the Sunday specials in the paper, as often you can find discounts of 20-30% on select models. By upgrading to an LCD monitor you have the opportunity to step into the new era of computer displays.
