Fireplace Fans And Blowers
Gen Wright
When picking a fireplace for your home, you are essentially dealing with a heating problem. The goal is to have some way of distributing heat evenly, to the extent that you feel comfortable. Therefore, the amount of heat generated, and how the heat is disperse throughout the home, are key considerations when buying and installing fireplaces.
Let's break it down a little and consider each component.
First, we have the problem of heat. There are many ways you can heat up your home. A fireplace is one of the most commonly seen solution. Even then, there are different types of fireplaces that you can choose from. Most city dwellers have electric fireplaces in their homes now.
Electric fireplaces are getting more and more popular because they don't require any burning fuel. Just flick a switch, allow the coil to heat up, and you have heat in the home. You also don't get messy residuals that you usually get with traditional fireplaces. In addition, you can adjust the amount of heat that you want, and that will give you more control over the temperature in the house. The colder the weather, the more heat you are going to need.
As the electric fireplace generates large amounts of heat for your home, this gives rise to another problem. You need some way to help spread the heat around so that you can heat up a larger area. For example, you can install a fireplace fan and that will help heat up several rooms instead of one.
Fireplace fans (or fireplace blowers), can only work well with electric fireplaces. That's because you don't want any smoke or burning materials flying around the house. Since electric fireplaces don't need fuel to generate heat, they are ideal partners for the fans.
To operate the fan, simply start up the fireplace and allow the electricity to heat up the coil. You will soon be able to feel the heat. Once the coil is heated up sufficiently, switch on the fan and give it time to do its work. In a few minutes time, you should be able to feel the heat being spread evenly around the house.
Some electric fireplaces come pre-installed with electric fans. Others don't. For fireplaces that don't come with in-built fans, you can always buy standalone blowers and let them work side by side with your existing fireplaces.
One great benefit of having a blower installed is that you tend to save more energy. When you don't have a blower, the only way to bring heat to remote corners of your house is to increase the power of the electric fireplace. But when you increase the power, you also use up more electricity. So why not just have a fan spread the heat around, and at the same time, save on electricity bills?
