London has 4 World Heritage Sites, which are the palace of westminster, Westminster Abbey & St. Margaret's Church, the Tower of London, substantial Greenwich, & kew's royal botanic gardens.
London has a long and fascinating history, which started when the romans founded the first major settlement there in AD 43 after the Roman conquest of britain.
London was especially prosperous in the eighteenth century and it became the world's largest city from 1831 to 1925. the expansion of london was helped by London's first railways, which put rural towns within easy reach of the city. The train network grew truly quickly, which made London expand into its surrounding areas and merge with close by settlements for instance Kensington.
Since then, London has continued to thrive and it remains one of the largest cities in the world.
One of the most popular tourist destinations in London is Buckingham Palace, which has been the london residence of the monarchy since 1837. The palace was initially opened to visitors in 1993 & the changing of the guard has proven particularly popular with them. This ceremony occurs in the forecourt of the palace at 11.30 every day in summer & every other day during the winter.
Buckingham Palace is placed in Westminster & its accessible by bus & tube.
It goes without saying that the shopping in London is the best in england. In fact, the city has a wide range of famous shops, comprising of Harrods & Hamleys.
Camden Town is well known for its alternative stores & exciting market. it is a varied location, which sells everything from retro clothes to music.
Alternatively, fans of shopping should visit knightsbridge or mayfair for the more high end shops. you'll find some fantastic designer names in this exclusive area.
London has rich and varied culture, which really has things for everyone to enjoy. From elite celebrity wine bars and nightclubs, to peaceful inns, you can't fail to have a marvellous evening out here.
London's West End is famous for its many theatres, which show a vast range of musicals and other shows. The longest running production in the west end was Agatha Christie's Mousetrap, which ran for a big 26 years from 1952 - 2004. other popular shows include Les Miserables, Miss Saigon, Cats and Mary Poppins.
Because it's such a huge place, London is really simple to get to. in fact, it's well connected by rail & has some friendly train stations, which contain London Bridge, London Victoria, London Euston & Liverpool street. as well as this, the city also has three huge airports, Heathrow; Stanstead & Luton.
Driving in London can be tricky due to the congestion charge, however the city has a fantastic underground & bus network to help people get about.
