So who gets you up and going in the morning so that you get to work on time? Most likely it is not your mother, since you moved away from home years ago. Most of us use alarm clocks today to do the job that Mom used to do. Some people even have several of these clocks either because they are sound and heavy sleepers, or simply because they are afraid one of them will not work.

There are so many choices of alarm clocks today that it can be confusing. Some of them have a radio and CD player, some even a little TV on the front of it, but the question is will it wake you up?

You can get one of these alarm clocks that have laser time so that you can shoot it across the room or onto the ceiling. This is just in case you can not see the huge green digital LED numbers displayed on the front of the clock that is about a foot away from your face while you are in bed. However, some people claim that these lights might keep them awake at night long enough that the alarm will not wake them in the morning.

Some people use some very unconventional alarm clocks, like the ones provided by their cell phones. Many cell phones have several different settings for alarms. You can set a reminder alarm or even a snooze alarm on your cell phone. But how good are your eyes at 5:30AM when your clock goes off? Are you going to be able to find your cell phone? And even if you can, will you be able to find the right button to turn the alarm off before it wakes the neighbors?

There are also those traditional alarm clocks with the analog face and the two bells on top that are hit repeatedly with a hammer to wake you up. Now these are loud alarms and really will wake up everybody in the house.

If you are a heavy sleeper, the traditional alarm clock might be just what you need. But these alarm clocks are also very primitive when it comes to functions and features. You will have to wind it up every day and set it every night, otherwise it will not go off at all and you will be late for work. These dinosaur clocks make great back-ups, though.

So what kind of alarm clock should you look for? Well, that is really entirely up to you. It will depend on your tastes, how you sleep, how you wake up, what will wake you up, and how much of a clock you can afford.
