Healthy Body Fat Percentage
Mikael Andersohn
Overweight people suffer from low self-esteem because they are mostly ridiculed for their physical stature. Some of these people bounce back and gain their self-esteem, but there are others who succumb to the pressures and resort to emotional eating. Emotional eating is resorting to eating as an outlet for frustrations and other negative emotions experienced by a person. Thus, their problem worsens because they gain more weight, and experience more ridicule. It is not only their self-esteem that suffers, but also their health.
You might say to yourself, how can self-esteem be related to health? In fact, they are both related in some way. Look at those that engage in body-building. You could see that they are proud of themselves, not only because they have glistening and bulging muscles, but also because their bodies are healthy. You could say the same about people who engage in any other form of exercise, including martial arts, swimming, and sports.
You could say that people who suffer from low self-esteem are those that have physical traits that are less desirable. However, these traits can be improved. A person may feel insecure because he is thin and frail. He can gain his self-esteem by gaining some weight and building up his body through exercise. Take note, too, that low self-esteem can sometimes trigger depression. It is a known fact too that depression triggers ulcers and can lead to heart problems, which are all health problems.
So, in a nutshell, one can conclude that a healthy body can lead to a higher appreciation of one's self and a higher self-esteem.
Engage in Exercise
Exercise is one way of maintaining a healthy body. Exercise burns off the excess fat and calories in our bodies and converts them to energy. This means that with exercise, you gain the chance to get rid of the fat and weight that has been the subject of ridicule towards you.
Exercise builds up the muscles. This is because when we exercise, we use muscular power to exert effort. Using our muscles tightens them up and encourages muscle growth. Exercise prevents muscle atrophy, which is the eventual deterioration of our muscular tissues because of under-utilization.
Exercise is also touted to improve the body's immune system. In fact, people who exercise are less likely to contract menial diseases like flu, cough and colds as compared to those that don't exercise at all.
Maintain a Proper Diet
Exercise works well a proper diet, too. Proper diet means the consumption of nutrients in an amount that is enough for the proper operation of our body. This comes close to the saying, ?Do not eat more than you can chew.?
Dieting means that you have to avoid the intake of too much fat in our body. Fat contains cholesterol that can be potentially dangerous to the body. Cholesterol is used by the body in some functions, but having too much in it in our body can lead to heart problems in the future.
