Steps Before wearing a hat, distribute some leave in conditioner through your hair. Make sure you get everywhere even you scalp. If you get too much conditioner in your hair, your hair will be damp and that would cause hat hair. You only want the size of a quarter with leave in conditioner.

Blow dry your hair so that the ends are straight and not curled out. If you are going to wear a hat, don't use a curling iron (for girls) to put curls all over your head, because hats flatten your hair.

Take your hat off every ten minutes to half an hour just for a small little brushing. If any bit of your hair starts to get flat brushing it out will give it more volume.

Don't use mousse for more volume. That will damp your hair and ask for hat hair. You might want to flip your hair while brushing it.

If your hair gets a tad bit frizzy from everything you may add the most minute dollop of water to your hair, only for emergencies. And make sure you brush it out and let it dry before wearing the hat again.
