Grab Bars have been around for a long, long time. I had never realized what they where for until I was in need myself. I now know that for some it would be impossible to live without. I bet they would be a huge selling point in a home to have them pre-installed.
In showers, grab bars are ideal for any age to be able to hold onto. The shower can be a very dangerous place. They are great to aid in getting in and out of the shower even rinsing your hair. I can't even count the number of times I have slipped and was very thankful that I had something to hold onto.
There are safety aids made for the bathtub as well. They securely attach to the side of the tub they are great for stabilizing when getting in or out of the tub. It is nice to have the option to be able to still take therapeutic bath's.
They also make a toilet safety frame than attaches to the toilet it's use is similar to a grab bar in that you can use it to hold and steady yourself or to raise and lower from the toilet. Used with a toilet seat riser the safety frame is an excellent tool for bathroom safety.
The kitchen can be a dangerous place as well after all, we do spend a fair amount of time in the kitchen everyday. I would suggest well placed grab bars and or a mobility aid such as a walker or rollator.
If necessary I would also suggest looking into emergency response services. The recipient just simply wears a pendant around there neck and if they get in any trouble the can push a button and get help.
