To most people who are not familiar with GPS for what its stands for. Well it simply mean Global Positioning Satellite system or GPS systems. Each month more and more of this technology is becoming a part of our everyday lives and finding its way into our daily livings. GPS systems may be applied to cell phones, to laptop computers, to vehicles for navigation, or any tracking purposes. Originally the system was developed by the United States defense department for military application,but due to the fact that the technology could be usefull to civilian use.Companies have developed a system for commercial use in recent years. Many practical uses of GPS systems have been developed for the commercial marketplace. The initial commercial GPS system was developed as stand alone handheld devices which was very popular with people who spend a lot of time in an outdoor environment such as hikers,hunters, and campers as a means for keeping track of there location & not becoming lost in unfamiliar location. Because GPS systems are in constant contact with a series of orbiting satellites around the globe, persons unfamiliar with there environment may now have the ability to determine there exact position where they are at any given time. GPS systems have become extensively use as a vehicle accessory for means of navigating, instead of having to deal with regular paper maps. Nowadays,many vehicle manufacturers now includes GPS systems as an accessory for brand new cars. With a GPS system installed, a person has to do is to input an address to the sytem and the GPS systems can determine where is the location of the inputed location, through communicating with a serries of satellite system and preprogrammed mapping data, a person can now view what the most direct route. Other GPS systems for vehicle may track the movement of vehicles and can relay that information to a remote location by using cell phone or a computer. These systems can be used if a certain vehicle is stolen. It can also monitor vehicle speeds, driving habits.

They can be found in newer models of laptops to help with recovery if the computer is stolen, cellphones may someday have a built in gps system, and PDA also. You can also find them in some high end stereo equipment, law enforcement also uses gps to monitor pardoned criminals who are out in the community. GPS systems are here to stay and becoming less expensive all the time because of mass production.
