Taking of Pelham is an American adult action thriller of 2009, directed by Tony Scott. It is a remake of the original 1974 film adaptation made in the television movie in 1998. The movie Taking of Pelham stars versatile actors like John Travolta and Denzel Washignton. It is a first movie in which Travolta has a negative shade unlike his dancing /romantic hero image in his earlier movies like The Saturday Night Fever, Grease part I and II and recently released family entertainer named Look Who's Talking.

A New York city subway train 6 (Pelham is the name of the subway destination) is hijacked by an gang of armed dacoits with hand totting guns, submachine guns etc,holding the entire passengers hostage in return of 10 million dollars as ransom and the result the entire day of the subway line dispatcher Walter Garber played by Denzel Washington throws into an inevitable dilemma as he has to blow off the entire savage plan masterminded by a don called Ryder.(John Travolta)who instead of playing a mercenary squarely the city of New York and the mayor for causing him to stay in prison for 10 years, longer than the guilty plea of three years. According to Ryder his detention shouldn't have been more than three to four years, this resentment have turns Ryder from a cool and calculating thug into a loose cannon, who can blow innocent people not out of necessity but out of spite. On the other side of the wall is a committed line dispatcher who has a really tough time fighting for him, negotiating with the difficult terms and conditions of the hijackers and also prevents the brutal killing of the innocent passengers.

Production of the film began in March 2008 whereas all the cast and crew had to attend a track safety course taught by MTA personnel, as much of the filming would take place in the subway on active tracks. The actual shooting had to be carried out during the peak hours of the main as well suburban tracks were active in transporting people and goods to different destinations. This movie was slated to be released in July 2009 but it was moved earlier to June. The main reason is the main actor Travolta was against acting and promoting this film because of the untimely demise of his only sixteen year old son. He stated that he still wasn't ready to step back into the spotlight.
