Grocery Stores & Supermarkets
Melissa Core
The finest application of Internet and public service arenas are definitely the grocery stores online. Grocery store visit can be pretty troublesome due to the messy parking lot, confusion due to flood of similar yet attractive products and waiting in those serpentine queues to be helped by a brusque manager. Our parents are already tied up with work, traveling, caring for kids, grooming, gym etc and online grocery stores give them immense reprieve in terms of time savings.
Grocery stores are especially convenient to those who prefer to have the minimal human interaction. Here is a nice shopping related site http://www.shoppingfordays.com. I have had many horrible encounters and I narrate you one, though minor but it does prove online grocery stores to be a lot better option. I have resided in the city for fifteen years now. For ten years I lived in an in-law apartment close by to a huge supermarket chain outlet. I visited it about thrice a week. The checkers were not ones I would consider socializing with, but were courteous and productive at their task.
Normally, after knowing the ways, I did my bags of groceries and got out with no incident happening. One afternoon I was in a line of a checker I had never encountered, since I generally shopped very early in the day and she must have been from some other branch. I had six items in the carry basket which I put on the belt and waited. She too stopped, stared and then started seething "What? Am I supposed take those things out of the basket for you?' I was shocked.
Here was this lady, who is supposed to serve the public, has a salary package three times more than what I was getting paid then and was shouting at her customers. Other checkers had no issues with removing things from basket and dinging against a scanner (they were even courteous enough to ask me to leave the basket to them). The basket had items which when paid for would fetch her salary and yet she had issues regarding this. For sure, I would prefer to use online grocery stores the next time and ever after.
More significant is the fact that grocery stores provide service not just to people who dislike notorious public but are actually fearful about it. I am a friend of many such people for whom a grocery store online is the healthiest path of literally no or minimal opposition. In fact, it was through my friend I lived with, that I came across an online grocery store for the first time. She was extremely agoraphobic, disliked, would say even was terrified of going out.
Professionally, she was a freelance artist with clients coming to her and who would use Internet for practically everything on the earth. She found one of the first online grocery stores, a driver company that took order online and delivered the goods within a few hours right at your doorstep. Hence grocery stores are the best for the busy bees and freelancers. I would even say they are perfect for those who want the human element to play a minimal role in the entire process of buying groceries.
