Grey's Anatomy Preston Burke
Groshan Fabiola
Grey's Anatomy is a diverse, great show that millions of Americans watch with weekly anticipation. The recent gossip regarding the on set behavior of Isaiah Washington have, thus, been very unfortunate. Washington recently called one of his castmates a homosexual slur, and the backlash from this incident is extreme. The BuddyTV article we're linked to makes a very different and interesting argument. The media coverage of this event has been pretty one-sided: Washington should be canned, or should at least pay in some way for his remarks.
The BuddyTV article takes an interesting point of view that, while not defending Washington, says that it's not all that big of a deal and is, in fact, a good thing for the show in general. Now, they certainly aren't defending the slur that Washington sent T.R. Knight's way; anything but. However, they make the apt comparison between Washington and his character Preston Burke and how this may be a key to the show's success. Washington is a jerk and so is the character he plays.
This is, ultimately, a good thing for the other actors; it makes it easier to act with Washington, more believable. The other interesting argument put forth in the article regards the behind-the-scenes actions of TV shows. Fights always break out on the set and Grey's Anatomy is, obviously, no exception. The only red flag here is that the Grey's story made it to the media, whereas most times it stays within the set. Did the cast try to throw Washington under the bus?
