How To Remove Vundo
Jason Harris
1.) Install AVG Anti-Virus. Download all updates. Run it and delete / quarantine anything it finds. Reboot as needed.
2.) Install HijackThis. Click on the last link "Download HijackThis Executable". When a popup comes up asking to run or save file, click on "Save". Save the file as a directory such as C:Program fileshijackThisHijackThis.exe. Do not put it in a temp folder or on the Desktop. Next, rename the Hijackthis.exe file to Analyze.exe. This is because some malware can hide from HijackThis.exe. If you know what you're doing, run HijackThis, and delete anything that you know is bad. If you don't know what is bad, then you need to search Google for various Anti-Spyware forums and post the HijackThis log on that forum and their users will help you out.
Going along with this step, for advanced users, run MSCONFIG after HijackThis and uncheck anything that you don't recognize from the Startup list.
Reboot.
3.) Install CCleaner. Close all windows. Run the program and make sure all the boxes are ticked under the Windows and Applications tabs and click the run cleaner button. Do this several times.
4.) Install Spybot S&D. Download all updates. Run it and delete / quarantine anything it finds. Reboot as needed.
Click the immunize button in the lefthand pane, then click the green immunize cross in the righthand pane. Close Spybot.
5.) Install Lavasoft Ad-Aware. Download all updates. Run it and delete / quarantine anything it finds. Reboot as needed.
6.) Download and run SmitFraudFix. Follow the instructions for using this tool on the download site.
7.) Download and run VirtumundoBeGone. Follow the prompts.
8.) Download and run VundoFix. Follow the instructions for using this tool on the download site.
9.) Download and run the free home edition of SUPERAntiSpyware. Run it and delete / quarantine anything it finds. Reboot as needed.
10.) Download and run Malwarebytes. Run it and delete / quarantine anything it finds. Reboot as needed.
11.) Download and run SpywareTerminator. Run it and delete / quarantine anything it finds. Reboot as needed.
12.) Download and run ComboFix. Follow the prompts.
13.) Run an Online Virus Scanner. Click on any of the first few links on Google. They all should be good scanners. Follow the Instructions.
14.) Install Windows Defender. Download all updates. Run it and delete / quarantine anything it finds. Reboot as needed. Be sure to turn on the real time scanning.
15.) You can now uninstall any of the above programs, except for AVG Anti-Virus and Windows Defender. By all means, keep them all if you want to though.
16.) Make sure you have Windows Firewall turned on at the very least, or have a dedicated Firewall such as Zonealarm, Kerio or Comodo.
17.) Install SpywareBlaster. Download all updates. Enable all protection.
18.) Go into your Internet Explorer Settings and make sure your Cookies setting is set to at least Medium High. Also, uncheck Install On Demand and make sure that Pop-Up blocking is enabled.
19.) Surf with Mozilla Firefox for now on. Install Adblock Plus for Firefox.
