How To Solve This Problem
Emanuele Allenti
Astigmatism is a very common condition of the eye. This means that the shape of the eye is not perfectly round and has more of an oval shape. The condition itself is not usually serious and affects many people. This slight distortion in the shape of the eye can mean that light has more than one point of focus in the eye and can mean that the vision is a little blurred. Contact lenses can help with this and your optometrist should be able to give you a good idea of the improvement that this will achieve with your sight.
Contact lenses for astigmatism are also known as torrid contact lenses. These are different to normal lenses because the shape is designed to help correct the impairment caused by astigmatism. They are also able to more easily keep their position on the eye so that they do not move around. And torric lenses are much better at keeping this position stable.
If you have astigmatism it is more likely that your contact lenses will cost more than normal contact lenses. There are two reasons for this. Firstly the eye test is likely to take much longer for people who have astigmatism. And as we all know if something takes longer it invariably costs more, as more of the optometrist's time is needed to make the examination.
Also the contact lenses for astigmatism are more expensive as they cost more to produce and these production costs are passed on to the consumer. This is due partly to the fact that the contact lenses for astigmatism are not plain spherical lenses as most contact lenses are.
There are many more options available today for wearers of contact lenses that have astigmatism and it is possible to choose from a wide variety of lenses. There are of course the two standard types of contact lenses gas permeable contact lens and soft contact lenses but there are also other choices.
Many people nowadays choose to wear daily disposable contact lenses. These are now readily available for many people with astigmatism. They are a very convenient option for those who do not wish to have the daily chore of soaking and cleaning their lenses and are happy to pay the marginally higher cost.
It is also possible to buy contact lenses for astigmatism that last for a whole 30 days without having to remove them. This is an extremely good option for people who would just like to forget about the daily ritual of putting in their contact lenses. Although you do have to make sure that you know when it is time to change them for a new pair.
There is even a fashionable side to wearing contact lenses for astigmatism, as they are now available in a range of colors that can suit most people. This is becoming much more popular now as a way to make you look better and the fact that it is now possible to get colored contact lenses for astigmatism will make it much more widely available.
There is a very good choice of styles and options now for those with astigmatism and the best person to ask is your local optometrist. They will be able to give you a good overview of the options and advise which is the most suitable for your prescription and your wishes.
