How To Learn French Fast
Lynn Halladay
Learning French, or any other foreign language, can be a tough job if you're an adult. As a child a new language is much easier to learn. Even high school French classes are easier! That is because as an adult learning is comparatively difficult because adults tend to compare a new language to languages they already know or speak. Therefore, the complexity level of one is not equal to the other. On the other hand, children learn by the sponge method, where they simply absorb everything that is being taught.
Our language abilities tend to slow down a little as we grow older. It's always easier, therefore, to pick up a language in school rather than later in life. One of the main reasons for this is that adults we tend to question why the language works in a particular way, why the structure of the words are not similar to the structure of our native tongue. It's easy to get annoyed by conventional language programs, since you'll need to put in a lot of hard work and progress will be slow.
There's no need to get discouraged. Everybody can pick up a language no matter how old they are. It's all a matter of finding a reliable that guides you through the language at your own pace.
Here are a few tips that will make your French lessons smooth, fun and easy to learn. The basics of learning effective French in a relatively short time are:
Practice makes perfect:
AT the risk of sounding cliché, practice makes it perfect! Though we all know it, it's difficult to gather enough time for regular practice out of our busy schedules. But it needs to be done. Practicing whatever you've learnt is essential. The best way is to gather people who you could practice French with. Put up notices in your neighbourhood and get acquainted with people who know the language. You could also try Alliance Françoise. And if you get a chance to go to France, what could be better?
Passive listening:
Listening to French, even if you don't understand it is a good method to recognize words and increase your vocabulary. Start listening to French music or audiobooks on your way to work, while doing household jobs or exercising.
Vary your practice:
Try doing different things on different days of the week. That'll keep you interested and the coursework won't be monotonous!
Don't Skip a day:
The golden rule of learning French or any other language is o keep at it daily. Practicing daily has better efficacy than even the very best method of language training. Daily classes help you pick up the language quickly.
Try online programs:
If you don't like the local French language program or find it difficult to fit classes intro your daily routine, or if French classes are simply unavailable locally, you could always try online programs. There are a number of how to learn French classes on the web nowadays where you get a thorough training. Find one that suits your needs. It's also the best bet if you want to be in touch with the language regularly and at your own time and pace.
