How To Plant Grow
Steve Knapp
Growing Roses is one of the best hobbies one can have. However, you do have to be pay attention to certain points to get the biggest and brightest blossoms from your roses. You also have to overcome the misconceptions about the cultivation of roses. It is best to read about roses on the Internet or get hold of some good books on rose gardening before you begin your rose garden.
To begin your rose garden, you need to have a good soil that has proper exposure to the sun. The planting methods of different kinds of roses are same, irrespective of whether it is bare root roses, pre packaged roses or container grown roses. You must be sure that the area you are thinking of to plant your roses should have proper drainage and a good deal sunlight. You should also be sure that there are not too many dead leaves or thin and decayed shoots on the plants - these should be cut off before planting.
Rose plants require more fertilizers to produce those beautiful flowers. Therefore, it is important to use proper fertilizers for rose gardening. One should start using fertilizers from the start of spring and use till the beginning of fall. However, be careful not to use too much fertilizer, and water the plant after each application of the fertilizer. Rose fertilizer spikes work great and make this job much easier as they will feed you roses for around 3 months. As roses need a large quantity of water, you will also need to water your rose bushes thoroughly at least twice per week.
A major point to note while starting your own rose garden is to decide the type of rose and the colors that your would like in your garden. There are different kinds of roses available in the nursery. These include bare root roses, container grown roses or pre-packaged roses. Bare root roses are most often in the nursery during winter and early spring. These roses should be planted soon after the frosts go away and the ground becomes warm, and the soil workable. Pre-packaged roses are sold in a box and are found with bare roots with saw dust around them to keep the moisture. Container grown roses are found in containers and usually are either budding or in bloom and are found in early spring through summer.
If your rose plants have any damaged or extremely long roots to them, they should be trimmed. Bare root roses must be soaked in water for a period of 10 to 12 hours so that the moisture content in the roots is restored before planting. Before planting your rose, you should also water the area very well. For the proper growth of the rose make the hole twice as deep, and twice as wide, as the root ball or container. To encourage healthy growth of your rose, use some compost or mulch in the soil to provide extra nutrients and retain moisture.
To encourage healthy growth and bigger, brighter and more frequent blooms, you'll also need to prune your roses regularly. During the growing season, this means to cut-back the blossoms once they are spent - this is known as ?dead-heading?. At the beginning and end of the growing season you'll need to prune according to your hardiness zone. For more specific guidance, visit your local nursery or websites about rose gardening on the Internet.
