1. Analyze and asses your skin condition at present. This is the first step in knowing what your skin really needs. It simply means that you should not follow whatever is in or what your favorite celebrity is endorsing since what works for other people may not work for you, too.
2. The basic skin care regimen is quite simple and easy to follow. Cleanse using a facial cleanser suitable for your skin type, tone, moisturize and apply SPF. Never layer products with practically the same effect since this can clog your pores.
3. Washing your face twice a day is enough already.
4. Never forget to apply SPF. Choose ones which are PABA-free and apply every 15 minutes, especially when you are at the beach or constantly exposed to the sun. Make sure to wash face and hands before applying.
5. Eye cream is essential since the skin around the eyes is the most sensitive. So always apply eye cream with SPF.
6. Never ever touch your face with your hands or whatever and always keep your hair off your face.
7. Every time you wash your face, use lukewarm water always. Very warm water is drying to your skin, while cold is shocking.
8. Exfoliate once a week, concentrating on your elbows, knees and soles. It can even out skin tone because it removes dead skin cells. Moisturize right after.
9. A more hygienic way is using a facial tissue instead of a towel to dry your face.
10. Don't sleep without removing all traces of make-up and washing off dirt from your face. Use oil-based make-up remover since a regular cleanser can't remove stubborn make-up like mascara and eyeliner.
11. Always remember the magic number 8. Chug down 8 glasses of water a day and get rid of puffy eye bags and dark under eye circles by sleeping 8 hours a day.
12. Moisturize, moisturize, moisturize! Especially after a day at the beach. Then again, those with oily skin can forget about the moisturizer and opt for oil-free and PABA-free sun block instead. For calluses and rough heels, slather petroleum jelly on feet and put on socks to absorb moisture. Best done before going to bed.
