Aparthotel Bonaire Cala Bona
Douglas Scott
Cala Bona is not a purpose built holiday resort more a more traditional town that has adapted to cater for the islands tourist market. The town has narrow streets, a wide variety of open air cafes and bars and also a small working harbour.
There are two beaches in the area. Cala Bona translated to English is the good bay, and Cala Millor translated to English is the better bay. One of the resorts best attractions is its sheltered, sandy beach. Cala Millor is close by and offers more beaches. Most hotels have pools, this way you can still enjoy sea views and keep away from the overcrowded beaches.
The resort has quite a few attractions which are more suited to the active family, though its possible to walk the fifteen minutes or so along the waterfront from the harbour to the more lively resort of Cala Millor.
Public transport on the East coast is limited, so it may be worth considering car hire to see more of the surrounding area.
Evening entertainment is not rowdy and is generally hotel based.
The resort is not particularly suited to those seeking an active holiday, but perhaps those looking for a relaxing break.
On the whole, the resort is generally quite, though a few hotels do put on live entertainment. Try the Levante Hotel, they do not allow children and they offer live entertainment as well as dancing.
Cala Bona is a self contained tourist resort which does not have a very good public transport service. So hiring of a car is essential if you feel the need to get out and about.
Here you can buy anything from jewellery, perfume, and fashion clothes. The Friday market in Son Servera is the place to go for leather goods and handmade crafts.
It is hot between May and October and it is virtually sunshine all the way with very little rain. In July and August it can be very humid and at night it is very sticky. If you come to Cala Bona over the winter months you will need to bring a jumper or coat for the evenings because it does go cooler but there will almost certainly be some stage each day when you can still enjoy the sun.
