How To Get Organized At Work
Gen Wright
Many people have a stab at clearing up the garage or house but end up just giving up. That does not mean they are a failure. Perhaps you just followed the wrong plan to try and get organized, if you even had a plan at all! Some people break out into a sweat and start to panic from a feeling of total overwhelm just at the thought of having to sort out their garage or home.
Well, it is natural to feel this way if you have not had the help of experts to make sure you enjoyed the sense of satisfaction and pride you get from the job done well when you tried to get organized. You can get that expertise right here to get you started on the right path, and before you know it you will be giving yourself a pat on your back and feeling satisfaction from even just getting started on clearing the clutter in your life and your environment.
The fact is that today's busy life demands all of our time and leaves us no space for keeping things in order at home. More than 86% of Americans today consider home organization a nightmare and go through the cleaning and arranging process with dread.
What people are not aware of is that organized homes actually save them more time, money and reduce their stress levels. If disorganization is already stressing you every day, you have to do something to straighten your house and your life as well.
While the purpose of the following tips below is to make your house as tidy as possible, it should be emphasized that orderliness is not all about a clean environment alone, it's about creating an orderly, clean and a happy family.
Set goals when you are starting to get organized.
This is more effective than doing things all at the same time and continuing the next day. Do one area at a time. If you did not finish on time, have a storage place for things you took out from their original place and clear the new space where you plan to put them.
Small steps are more fulfilling and easy to accomplish.
Do not try to aim big when you are fully aware of your busy schedule. Starting small will guarantee you complete the first job and give you less stress and not really disrupt your everyday schedule.
Set a deadline.
Clutter starts giving you problems if you keep on storing things for purposes that they are never needed for. If you want to keep things be sure to set time limits for them and if the reason for keeping them does not come through then do not hesitate to use, give or throw them away. For instance if you havent worn a garment or used an item for two years, then it is a pretty safe bet to give it away to someone who will use it.
Organizational Supplies
If you work your business from home and cannot avoid the influx of papers stacking up in your home, there are several ways by which you can keep them pouring in and stay organized at the same time.
Try putting up simple items which will help you stack paper files (drawer dividers) with color tags. You may also put some paper documents on shelves, racks or in containers for other accessory items.
Appropriate Systems
Keep a daily, individualized, unique cleaning ritual of your own. Keep things simple, remember that tidy is more important than clean when it comes to being oganized
Get rid of items that are not useful or those that take up too much space and effort in its maintenance.
Less is More
Plan your d'cor so that it is easy to keep clean and tidy. Home decors may look good at times but current interior designing trends taught us that less pieces of furniture with a monochromatic theme allows for a more peaceful and orderly environment. Ancient Feng Shui also says that clutter is bad for your energy flow and fortunes.
Challenge Behavior
Are you guilty of NEVER putting away anything after you finish using it? Behaviors sometimes keep us from maintaining a neat home environment. Try to identify your daily routines and avoid ones that encourages the piling up and becoming overwhelming.
Avoid Clutter
Do you waste a ton of space with outsized stuff you though would look good, but do not really have space for? Most of the time, we purchase items that are not really needed or may eat up too much space in one part of the house. Huge vases, pots and pans, and other trivial ornamental articles are the perfect examples. Sell them on eBay or a garage sale and invest the money in efficient items that work better for your organized life and take up little space.
Find time to have fun.
You are going to have more time and less stress when you keep your home organized, so use that time for fun treats to reward yourself! Always remember that it is important to find time for yourself. Make some engagements for yourself and make the most out of them. You have to cherish the free schedules that you have allotted for yourself. You can go out with your family and enjoy every moment spent with them.
Do not think too much about things that you think are difficult to accomplish.
Stressing yourself out before you even begin will stop you before you even get started. Make yourself relax and calm your mind to get in a comfortable mood. You might be pressured and stressed if you dwell on the hard items rather than thinking of the satisfaction of finishing them. You should start doing the hardest items first on your list. Then the rest of the tasks will follow much easier once the hardest job is completed.
Do things once.
An item must be handled only once. You can read the file and you may refer it again to someone else. It is important that you understand the file so that you do not have to get back on it again. If you are done, there is no need to include it anymore in the many piles of papers that are on your table. File it or pass it on.
Do things on time so it does not pile up.
Commit to yourself that you will be TIMELY in all your tasks. You enjoy work more, and everyone else thinks you are wonderful! Complete what you can do today. Be realistic rather than idealistic, but be firm about completing what you start.
Prioritize.
Do not let the chores of the day rule you. You decide what the priorities are. Do all the things you need to do NOW and methodically defer the things that you can do later with more time.
Monitor your Telephone Calls.
Just how much time do you spend on the phone every day? Telephone calls may just consume time if there are unnecessary things that are being brought up in your conversation. You may limit the time by directly pointing out the issues that are to be discussed.
Be systematic.
How much time do you spend at the moment sorting through things to find one item? You should create a system that is applicable and effective in your daily tasks. Use it for your own good; you may just realize that there are more times that you can have a rest.
Do things that make you happy and feel life's most precious times.
Is the distraction and inconvenience of clutter taking the joy out of your time to relax? Enjoy walking around in your garden with your kids. You may go to the mall and watch a movie, or you may even play your favorite sport. It is important in one's life to allocate some time for yourself. Think of it as a reward or a retreat from the pressures and stress you get from work. There are many rewards and benefits including these:
You will have more room.
This is something to really look forward to. When you get organized whether at your room or at your desk at work, you'll find you have more free space and that you're space is uncluttered. You won't even have to throw something out. You just need to place things in some sort of order and maintain that order at all times. As a result your mind will also feel more clear and uncluttered.
You will feel more in control.
Just imagine how wonderful this will feel! Did you know that clutter around your house and at work causes the stress you're feeling from time to time? It's no wonder you're feeling more irritated at work. As your clutter gets removed, you'll feel that it is easier to breathe and take charge of your own life.
This is a skill like any other that we have to learn before we can be a master at it. Being organized requires a lot of discipline to maintain. Nobody ever said it was easy. You need to make sure you don't lapse back to your old habits or all of what you have done will be for nothing.
Remember, you are probably not disorganized by nature. What you need may be just a simple workable calendar system for your appointments, trying out more organizational ideas you have in mind and to be yourself. Try these and experience the feeling of freedom and having more time for other activities.
