How To Get Better In School
James Silvester
A few months ago, I began reading about RSS feeds and how the main search engines absolutely loved them, because they provided the search engines with nice fresh content for them. People with blogs were submitting their RSS feeds to yahoo to index and forums were beginning to do the same and people were beginning to realise that if you had pages from your site in RSS feeds, they would get indexed very quick.
I was one of the first to start submitting my RSS feeds from my blogs and forums to literally whoever would take the link and use it to get me more traffic, when suddenly it hit me in the face. I was checking all the major search engines to see how many pages I had indexed and what their page rank was when I realised that MSN had introduced RSS Feed outputs into their search results and yahoo were looking for as many RSS feeds as they could get hold of to feed their search results with fresh content.
So, I went to msn and entered into the search
1) My alias I use online and copied the link for the RSS 2) my site name (for example site:www.jamessilvester.co.uk) and copied the link for the RSS
I then went to Yahoo, opened an account and went to the MyYahoo page. This page is basically a customised page where you can customise its content by setting up RSS feeds for fresh content to be imported into the page. So you can look at the latest news from whichever sources you want and keep an eye on your forum posts, blog post, etc, all on one page. However, when you submit RSS feeds to your account, they also get indexed quick.
On this page, I submitted the two RSS feeds I had got hold of from MSN, along with the RSS feeds generated by my forum and blog and this meant that yahoo was indexing static pages i.e. pages were which were not really fresh content as if they were fresh content pages.
Within a few weeks, the number of indexed pages I had in google for my site and related to my alias increased from around 500 to around 50,000. I was getting more traffic and therefore money from my sites and search engines had a higher coverage for my alias.
