How Stella Got Her Groove Back
Buddytv
If any show ended with a bang this season, it's Grey's Anatomy. As season finales have it, "Freedom" tied some loose ends and resolved some issues, but more importantly, the closures it gave on a lot of things are nice enough to make Grey's fans relax, but not too conclusive to make another season predictable. This, other than the fact that most viewers generally agree that most episodes of late, perhaps with the exception of a few, have paled in comparison to the wondrous third season.
On "Freedom," almost all the characters have their shining moments. Most notably, of course, is Miranda Bailey, who alternates from being hilarious to being emotional. She hands over the keys to the clinic to Izzie who she says has grown to be a great doctor. Not to be outdone, Meredith Grey does the most amazing thing ever in the final scene, recreate Derek's and her supposed love nest via candles. They share a kiss, Derek hands her over a bottle of champagne, and he scurries off to talk to Rose so he can "more than kiss" Meredith. The season ends, however, with him and Meredith not together, which many pessimistic Grey's Anatomy theorists surmise as a set-up to do something tragic with Derek's character before he gets back to Meredith, getting involved in an accident, for instance.
This scene, however, can't seem to make up for the way Derek acted towards Meredith earlier, when a clinical trial patient died. It mostly revealed how insecurity is part of Derek's precarious personality, how he has a tendency to resort to blaming when things don't go the way he planned them. In conclusion, though, the finale of Grey's Anatomy showed the things it is capable of, especially the way it plays with its characters; for instance, sending them crashing down just to bring them to new heights (Cristina), or making them try to turn over a new a leaf but not being so successful (Sloan). In the end, it just gets fans asking, nay, craving for more.
