Africa Mobile: Morocco And Kenya
Robert Thomson
The Republic of Kenya is a Republic is located in the eastern area of Africa, bordering Ethiopia, Somalia, Tanzania, Uganda, Sudan, and the Indian Ocean. Archeologically, Kenya is an incredibly important region, with clear evidence that dinosaurs at one time inhabited this area.
Kenya underwent colonial rule by the Portuguese, Omani Arabs, and the United Kingdom, with its independence declared in 1963. After its independence, Kenya underwent smart economic policies that encouraged great growth in GDP, but its economic growth was curtailed and has suffered since 1974. However, in recent years, there have been economic policy movements designed to increase the growth of the country. With its great potential of natural resources, Kenya has recently signed an agreement with China to begin excavating for oil.
An incredibly diverse country, Kenya has over 42 ethnic groups that each has their own cultures and traditions.
Morocco
The Kingdom of Morocco lies amid the North African region, with more than 33 million people populating the country. Morocco is along the Atlantic shorelines and extends to Strait Gibraltar and the Mediterranean Sea. The country area borders Algeria, Spain, and Mauritania.
Historically, Morocco had protectorate relationships with France and Spain, but in 1956, Morocco's domestic movements were successful in achieving the country's independence.
Unlike other countries on the African continent, Morocco is not part of the African Union; instead, it is a member of the Arab Leagues, Maghreb Union, FOIC, and Group 77. The Moroccan GDP comprises 7% of the total economy of the African continent, with its largest industry begin that of mining phosphates, followed by money transferred in from nationals living abroad and tourism.
With its population of over 33 million, Morocco is the fourth largest Arab country in terms of population. Its main languages are Moroccan Arabic, French, Berber, and Spanish and it is a very ethnically diverse country.
