Misleading Shows On Home Improvement Lead To Break Ups
Ray Walberg
Home improvement shows make staying within a home improvement budget hard. Programs that showcase innovative appliances and extravagant interior designs entice consumers to buy more than they can afford. Serious financial repercussions can occur when home improvement budgets are exceeded. 68% of those surveyed said they used cash from their savings or investments to fund home improvements. 34 % borrowed money to help fund their home renovations.
Being prepared before starting home improvements can help head off financial troubles. Cut down on the stress that home renovations bring by securing a line of credit. Homeowners or personal lines of credit provide a comfortable but realistic spending limit.
Do it Yourself renovations based on home improvement shows could bring your marriage to an end. Amateurs who try to replicate DIY shows rarely get everything right. While DIY shows are over in half and hour or an hour, real life home improvements can drag on for extended periods of time. A study conducted by British Gas' Web site house.co.uk, showed that 80% of families involved in do it yourself home improvements argue over the renovations. Color scheme seemed to be the major bickering point. Two in three families break up over this common diy project.
With the housing market constantly in flux, people are turning to home renovations. However, fewer people are calling in a skilled tradesman. 84% of home improvers are taking tips from home improvement shows.
Color scheme disagreements rank number one in home renovation disputes. Another common argument is that the home improver does not want to be the one completing the project. Suggesting that maybe the person completing the project was forced into it. The third most common grip about home improvement projects is that things are much more difficult in reality. While projects are completed in half and hour on television, they take much long in real life. The fourth most common argument is that the project never gets finished. Number four is closely tied in with number five which is not having enough time to devote to the project. Number six is the mess of the project followed by stress at number seven. Clean up can be the hardest part. The cost of the project is number eight. Many people surpass their budget for the project. The lack of renovating knowledge is number 9. Remember, those people on the televisions are experts, or have the guidance of experts to complete the project. Tenth on the list is the difference of opinions that often comes up between the genders.
