Signs That Help You Determine The Causes Of Insomnia
Carl Spencer
The best way to begin treatment is by figuring out the causes of insomnia. This sounds simple, right? It is not as easy as it might sound, but learning what you can about the risk factors and common causes of insomnia can help you learn how to deal with this type of disorder.
Certain Risk Factors Can Increase the Causes of Insomnia
Certain risk factors can make you more susceptible to having insomnia than others. People at higher risk are people that suffer from depression along with elderly people. Females are also at higher risk than males. When you combine these factors with medical conditions, stress and anxiety, then the causes of insomnia become greater for that person than for someone without these risk factors. Certain medications can also increase your risk factors of getting this sleep disorder.
Different Causes of Insomnia Last for Different Lengths of Time
Insomnia is classified according to the length of time that it last. If insomnia only last for a short period of time it is called transient insomnia. When it occurs for awhile and then goes away for awhile then back again, it's called intermittent insomnia. If you have this condition for a long period of time, then it is called chronic insomnia.
The causes of insomnia affect the length of time that it lasts. For instance, factors such as stress, environment changes, loud noise and extreme temperatures are associated with both transient and intermittent insomnia. Medications, jet lag and other unusual situations can also cause these types of insomnia.
There are a few disorders that can cause chronic insomnia. Some of these are Kidney disease, asthma, restless leg syndrome, sleep apnea, Parkinson's disease, narcolepsy, arthritis, hyperthyroidism, heart conditions and depression.
Other factors that can also cause chronic insomnia include substance abuse and misusing alcohol or caffeine. Other causes of insomnia include behavioral factors that include taking to many naps throughout the day, smoking cigarettes, anxiety and poor sleeping habits.
Finding the Source of the Problem
Confronting the source of the problem is the best way to determine which treatment would suit your needs the best. Sometimes treatment can be as simple as removing the factors that are causing the condition. However, other times it is not this easy. This is why it is so important to find the causes of insomnia that are keeping you up at night.
Best Ways to Get Help
Do not think that you have to figure out the causes of insomnia on your own. There are different options available when it comes to getting help. One of the best ways to get help learning the causes of insomnia is by consulting your health care provider and working together to find a solution.
