Week By Week During Pregnancy
Warren Wong
Details Of Pregnancy Week By Week
1st to 4th week
The first week starts from day one of your last period. The egg fertilizes in the fourth week and you are officially pregnant!
5th to 8th week
It's usually in the fifth week that your doctor confirms your pregnancy. In the week that follows, your baby's heart beat begins. By the eighth week, your baby has developed tiny arms and legs.
9th to 12th week
Your belly starts showing now. Eventually, it will be huge in order to accommodate your developing baby. At this point of time, you will experience a lot of changes in your body. Your baby will start moving inside of you. By week twelve, you should notice a decreases in the intensity of morning sickness.
13th to 16th week
This is the time when you can determine the gender of your baby, although not always with complete accuracy. In the fourteenth week, you can hear the heartbeats of your baby with the help of a stethoscope. Also, you can feel the movements of your baby, as her bones harden.
17th to 20th week
Your baby's vital organs develop rapidly. Fine hair, called "lanugo", starts growing all over her body. With the help of an ultrasound, you can know your baby's gender with accuracy. It's wise to keep a check on your pregnancy week by week to avoid complications.
21st to 24th week
Your baby starts breathing. You might get slight contractions at this time. As your pregnancy reaches the 24th week, your baby gets chubbier due to the deposition of fat in her body. This is to keep her body temperature under control after she's born.
25th to 28th week
At this time, your baby grows so much that your uterus seems to be small for her! You baby has all her senses working and she can distinguish between darkness and light. She can even hear your voice!
29th to 32nd week
Your baby's head undergoes a rapid growth in proportion to the rest of her body. Her eyes and brain develop fully. As you reach the 32nd week, except the lungs that continue to develop, all other organs of your baby are completely developed.
33rd to 36th week
Your baby can open and close her eyes. She has fingernails too! The weight of your baby reaches about four pounds and her length grows to around sixteen inches. If you keep a tab of your pregnancy week by week, you won't be scared of the drastic changes taking place in your body.
37th to 40th week
Your baby is fully developed. The lungs continue their development. Soon, it will be time for you to welcome her into the world!
