Everyone knows the time old saying of reaching ones heart through their stomach! For the children of the family Valentines Day is the perfect opportunity to show care and love, This can be done simply through making treats for the youngens. With the three main meals that most children eat, Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner you are able to use your creativity. Make their foods colourful, flavoursome and most of all reflective on the meaning of Valentines Day.
Remember making pancakes as a kid, making them so huge you couldn't turn them over in the pan? Well we are adults now right? Why not make some pancakes that your children will absolutely love? For Breakfast try making your children some heart shaped pancakes. What a great way to welcome in Valentine's Day! It will give the kid's a nice surprise as well as an understanding of the importance of Valentine's Day. To spruce them up even more try adding a little big of food colouring or some chocolate drops, Make large pancakes and use cookie cutters to cut out bite sized hearts, cupids and flowers. Top them off with some Icing Sugar, strawberries or even whipped cream. Your children are never too young to get into the spirit of Valentine's Day.
Want your children to be the envy of the whole school? Well why not pack their lunch box with some wonderful valentines treats? Make their normally boring Jam or Vegemite sandwich the talk of the playground by removing the crusts and cutting the remainder of the sandwich into the shape of a heart. Instead of the normal apple or orange in their lunch box try giving your children a handful of strawberries and a chocolate or two as a treat. If you are not fond of the idea of your children eating chocolates at school try giving them a little gift instead. Why not give them a sticker, toy or some rub on transfers in their lunch box? I can guarantee this will send the other kid's green with envy, therefore making your little one feel special, loved and appreciated.
Some great snacks can be made in the theme of Valentine's also, Fill Rice Crispies with jam and icing sugar and draw love hearts on top with icing or melted chocolate or ask the kid's to help you the night before to make some awesome Valentine's cupcakes or a large heart shaped cake. The kid's will not only love eating these but will thoroughly enjoy the time taken with Mum or Dad to make and decorate the cakes. Cookie Bouquets are another great recipe to try out with the kid's, simply make a batch of the kid's favourite biscuits and stack them nicely in a cane basket. Drizzle some melted chocolate over the top of the biscuits, not only does this look great but can be a great present to give one of their friends.
Making Dinner for Valentine's couldn't be simpler. Realistically the meal doesn't need to be special, just take the time out to decorate the table in a romantic way. I'm sure by this stage you are not feeling as if it is going to be a romantic dinner with the kid's there, but it is however the last task of the day before the kids go to bed and the alone time for you and your partner starts. Find some nice candles, placemats, a red table cloth, bring out the nice china table ware and really but your heart into it. The most important thing is to make sure your children really understand the meaning of valentines. When they are older they too will be able to share this day with that special someone. It's never too early to encourage your children to enjoy Valentine's Day.
Congratulations on all your hard work today, I'm sure the kid's really appreciate the effort you have gone to. Now it's time for you and your other half to retreat to the bedroom and celebrate in style. Happy Valentine's Day to you all.
