Ways To Save Energy
Martin Barwise
To save energy is one of the most important and immediate things that people should do these days. For one, saving energy means saving on seemingly endless electricity price hikes. Secondly, saving energy means saving the environment as well – after all, there will no longer be too much unnecessary carbon emissions in the air.
If you’re interested to know some of the ways on how to save energy, here are seven ways to do so:
1. Turn off all lights when these are not in use. Fluorescent lamps and other types of light bulbs, when left on all day, can spell a big waste of energy – not to mention the fact that it can also spell big unnecessary expenses on your part.
2. If you have an air conditioner at home, keep your thermostat meter at a reasonable level. There’s really no need to keep it at a high level if the season’s cold anyway, is there? Also, if you know that you won’t be home for the night or for a few days, you need to make sure that you unplug the air conditioning unit.
3. Hot summer days may prompt you to turn the thermostat level at a very high level. Here’s an alternative, however. If you want to retain the heat in the winter but keep the cold air in the summer, have insulated panels installed in your attic or walls. This can also help you save up on electricity costs.
4. Don’t use up too much water when you’re at the bathroom. Advocates of energy saving says that it’s better to take quick showers than to take baths. Also, keep an eye on your faucets at home. At the first sign of a leak, call your handyman right away.
5. Weatherproof your house. This may entail extra costs but the added expense can be worth it. You can save up on costs and you can also further protect your home. You can weatherproof your house by placing weather strips around the knobs, windows and doors.
6. Always turn off any appliance or electronic device off when these are not in use. There’s no point of turning them on if you’re not going to use them anyway or if you just turned them on just for the sake of it.
7. Buy a 1000-watt, 3-plug item that can help save energy. One good example of this is the Smart Adapter, an energy saving remote control standby device. The Smart Adapter, which can be bought for a reasonable price of only £19.95 each at www.gadgetsUK.com, pledges to completely cut power at the simple flick of a switch. The adapter also helps keep the environment free from unnecessary carbon emissions put out by connected yet unused electronic equipment. Moreover, the Smart Adapter can also let the user switch the appliances or electronic device on and off via a remote control from a distance of as much as 30 meters away. You can use just about any electronic device on this adapter.
