Web designing requires a lot of creativity, time and effort. You might have created various designs for your own site or for your clients and might have discarded quite a lot of them, before choosing the right one. Just because a particular Website design was not suitable for a particular project, it does not mean that the same design cannot be used in the future.

As a Web designer, it might not seem creatively right to go back to your past and dig out any old designs, but in practice, it makes perfect sense. That does not imply that your rejected designs are bad in any way and it also does not mean that your other clients might not like those designs. Just as recycling various consumer products is advisable and even good for the environment, recycling Web designs also has some inherent advantages. The biggest advantage is in terms of time. Since you already have a Web design in ready stock, which most probably would have been tested, you will not need to run back to the drawing board and you may only need to make some minor changes, in order to make the design presentable again.

There could be another advantage to recycling your Web designs. Since you might already know that you can recycle your designs, you will be able to present a wider choice of designs to your clients without fear. This could prove to be advantageous for your client too, since he/she might get to choose from a panoramic range of designs. Thus, it is a win-win situation for all those involved. Anyway, a Web design is not like a consumer product that gets old and may be even dangerous after a particular period of time. As long as the design looks fresh and functions according to expectations, then there should not be any problem.

However, due care should be taken before you decide to recycle your designs. Any Web design that has been reserved exclusively for a particular client should not even be shown to other clients. If your client has demanded only new and exquisite designs, then he/she might not be happy, if you just rehash an old design and present it. But, if any particular client wants to set-up a Website within a limited budget, then you could definitely present a recycled design to serve both purposes. If any client is in a hurry to start a new Website, then it makes more sense in presenting a recycled design rather than to try creating a fresh design that could consume a lot of time. Recycling is not the same as copying, since in recycling you are only presenting your earlier ideas and not stealing ideas from any other designer. If some of your designs look outdated, you could just freshen them up and present them again instead of just throwing them in the recycle bin.

Thus, by recycling your Web designs, you could save on time and effort and also offer a wider choice to your clients, while ensuring that your earlier designs do not go to waste.
