Don't want to drop all your money at the tables in Las Vegas? Why not take advantage of one of the many shows on offer? There are innumerable options: comedy, magic, circus performances, or perhaps something a little more risqu?. These shows used to be seen as an extra? a way to take a break from the gaming tables. But now, high production value and cutting-edge ideas mean that Vegas shows are an attraction all their own. Here are some of the best.
1. One of the best free shows is the Masquerade Show in the Sky at the Rio. It is part Brazilian carnival parade and part off-the-wall costume extravaganza. And, best of all, it's free.
2. Cirque de Sole has been dominating the Vegas show scene recently. The production company currently has several shows running and more in the works. The Bellagio, the MGM and the Mirage, the biggest players among Vegas casinos, each has a Cirque de Sole show: titled O, Ka, and Love, respectively.
3. Musical shows are also part of the Vegas scene. The hilariously offbeat Blue Man Group performs regularly as does the percussion-heavy production of Stomp. These shows are quite popular and sell out well in advance of show day, so people interested should book ahead.
4. Penn and Teller are one of the coolest magic duos in Las Vegas. Their brand of theatrics, music and magic is as much about showmanship as it is about tricks. That said, they boast an impressive list of illusions and slight-of-hand tricks to their name.
5. There are plenty of adult shows in Vegas as well. These range from topless dance revues to full-on musicals with adult themes and nudity. Currently, one of the most popular shows is Bite and the Stratosphere. It features a mainly female cast and tells the story of a vampire in love.
