Victorian Costumes For Children
Ray Rsa
The Victorian era remind us of a culture and a lifestyle that fascinates most of us. This period started in the late 18th century to the 19th century. Although having many industrial revolutions like photography and communications we remember it mostly by its clothing styles which are up to today integrated in the current fashions.
We can experience the Victorian period by reading books, watching medieval movies, and going to theater productions. Clothing in this era was elegant, beautiful with lots of frills, lace and ribbons. Ladies usually wore numerous petticoats with tight corsets to achieve that graceful look. Dresses varied from high waisted ones to the natural waists gowns. The materials used mostly for the clothing was heavy cotton, rich silk fabrics, flannel, satin and muslin. White was the most popular color followed by cream and yellow color.
For all us romantics; dressing up is a way to enjoy this period that started from the early 1820s. If you do not have your great grandparents collections, Victorian clothing, hats and wigs are also available in antique stores. Some stores have collected these vintage clothing over the years but other stores just reproduce them to sell them at reasonable prices.
