How many loads of laundry per week do you think the average family washes? Well, it is probably around ten loads and maybe even more for those with small children. Of course, every family may not have as many loads as others, but you better believe that the washer and dryer are two of the busiest and most necessary appliances in the home. Between the amount of clothing worn by everyone each week combined with sheets, towels and other miscellaneous articles that must be laundered occasionally, it is not a good thing when the washing machine is not working.

When you invest in a washer and dryer for your home they are appliances that you want to last for years, so if you can, buy some good ones. Even good ones can need maintenance occasionally. Hoses can get pinched and develop leaks, washers in the hoses can wear out and cause leaking where the hoses connect to the spigots. When you install your washing machine the first time, check the hoses and make sure they are not too crowed and make sure that there are no leaks when you connect the water supply to them. These kinds of leaks from a washing machine might cause wood damage and mold over time and need to be repaired as soon as you notice them.

If you make sure these that the connections and hoses have no leaks and check them out occasionally, you should not have to worry very much about leaks causing water damage to the machine or the flooring under and around your machine. There is another issue that could cause flooding that you may not be able to foresee. This would be if you develop leaking underneath in the mechanics of the washing machine itself. If you get a flood caused by this, you might not be able to do much in the way of preventing this other than listening out for unusual sounds or movement from the machine.

If your washing machine causes a flood and soaks the floors underneath and around it, it is important to get the water cleaned up as quickly as you can. Hopefully the flood will not happen while you are out of the house. This is one good reason to only run water using appliances when you are at home if possible. After the water is all dried up, if the water did come in contact with baseboards, you will want to check it soon afterward to make sure there is no mold growth. If you notice any at all, you should treat the area with a bleach solution or a product designed specifically to kill mold.
