The Consumer Guide to Plastic Surgery has released their predictions on which cosmetic surgery procedures Americans will be seeking in the year 2009. At the top of the list, the economic crisis? effect on Americans? pocketbooks. Also on the list, a few new cosmetic products being released this year.

It seems less is more in the year 2009. The economic recession has already impacted the plastic surgery business, especially in popular areas in Southern California such as Los Angeles, Beverly Hills, and San Diego. Many possible San Diego cosmetic surgery patients are re-evaluating their plans for plastic surgery, and opting for less expensive procedures such as San Diego Fraxel, laser skin resurfacing, and injectable fillers like Botox and Restylane, instead of major surgeries. In fact, a recent poll of consumers and plastic surgeons released at the annual scientific meeting of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) in Chicago found that 27 percent of the survey participants were considering less expensive options, compared with 20 percent six months ago.

The ASPS and Consumer Guide to Plastic Surgery also predicted that as the recession continues, many doctors may start cutting prices on surgical procedures as well as injectables to help attract new patients. The important thing is not to look for discounts, but to make sure that if you do opt for surgery, to put the doctor's professional training first. Bargain plastic surgery is something all consumers should be wary of.

As far as some of the new products coming out, there is much buzz about a topical version of the wrinkle relaxer Botox. Topical Botox may seem to good to be true, but the cosmetic surgery community has been boasting its potency for reducing wrinkles without the need for multiple injections. San Diego Botox has been increasingly popular for minimizing wrinkles, migraine headaches, ocular muscle spasms, excessive sweating, and foot pain associated with wearing high heels. A new version of the injectable form of botilinum toxin Type A ? commonly known as Botox ? will be released in 2009 called Reloxin. Similar to Botox in almost every way, Reloxin has all the same wrinkle reducing properties and lasts anywhere from 4-6 months, just like Botox.

And on a similar not, Allergan, the maker of Botox, will be releasing a drug called Latisse, which helps grow longer, thicker, darker eyelashes. The FDA has approved Latisse earlier this month, which is a spin-off of the glaucomea drug Lumigan, which has been shown to cause eyelash growth. Latisse will likely be the first eyelash-lengthening drug to gain FDA approval.
